Jochen Schliessler

Jochen was born in Baden-Baden, Germany in 1964 and moved to Vancouver, Canada, in 1979. 

His grandfather and father’s work influenced him at an early age. His grandfather, Otto Schliessler, taught sculpture at the University in Karlsruhe, Germany. Jochen’s father, Martin Schliessler, was a sculptor and celebrated documentary filmmaker. Jochen assisted his father on many of his films, travelling to extraordinary places around the globe. These experiences have had a deep influence on Jochen and his work. 

“Art has no rules” is Jochen’s mantra and his work synthesizes traditional abstract expressionism with his own personal and imaginative vision.
